When a Buyer’s Card Fails
Summary:
If a buyer’s card fails in Verified Checkout, payment cannot be captured until they fix it. You are not obligated to hold the item indefinitely.
What Happens
- The order shows as Unpaid in your dashboard.
- You cannot process or fulfill the order until the buyer updates their card.
- The buyer must resolve the issue before they can place new bids.
Your Options
- Wait for the buyer to update their card and retry payment.
- If the issue isn’t resolved in a reasonable time, you may cancel the order and relist the item.
Why This Matters
- Verified Checkout protects sellers from unpaid orders, but it requires payment capture to be successful.
- Buyers are responsible for keeping their card details current.
Reminder:
Once the buyer fixes the payment, they are charged for the amount on the order. While you are not required to hold winning auctions for buyers with failed payments, it is a good practice to reach out to the buyer to make arrangement.
