Seller Account Balance - Negative Balances & Automatic Charges
What a negative Seller Account Balance means:
A negative Seller Account Balance means your seller account has outstanding platform-related charges that need to be recovered. To prevent disruptions, we may automatically charge your connected bank account (ACH) based on the schedule below.
Common reasons your Seller Account Balance can become negative
Here are the most common scenarios that can create a negative balance:
1) Refunds where payment processing fees aren’t returned
When you issue a refund, the payment processor (e.g., Stripe) does not return certain processing fees. In those cases, the platform covers those non-refundable fees on your behalf, and your Seller Account Balance becomes negative until it’s recovered through an ACH charge.
2) Upcoming feature charges
As we introduce new tools to help you succeed, some features may include premium fees. These charges are applied to your seller account and may result in a negative balance.
3) Chargebacks and dispute-related losses
If a buyer files a chargeback or payment dispute and it’s decided against the seller, the disputed amount (and any associated dispute/chargeback fees) is deducted from your seller account, thus creating a negative balance.
4) Shipping label adjustments or carrier surcharges
If you buy shipping through the platform, carriers sometimes apply post-purchase adjustments (dimensional weight, address corrections, overweight fees, surcharges). Those adjustments can be applied after the label is created and may push your balance negative.
5) Failed ACH Transfer
If an ACH transfer fails (for example, due to insufficient funds or a bank rejection), Stripe charges a $4 return fee. This fee is added to your Seller Account Balance.
When do automatic charges happen?
- We check seller balances every day at 7:00am ET.
- If your balance is -$10 or more, we will charge the outstanding amount during the daily run.
How charges work (ACH)
- Charges are processed via Stripe bank transfer (ACH).
- Stripe Processing fee: 0.8%, capped at $5 max per charge.
What you’ll see in your dashboard
If your balance is negative and bank info is not set up
- A warning banner appears in your seller dashboard prompting you to add bank information to avoid disruptions.
If your last charge attempt failed
- A warning banner should also appear indicating the last attempt failed (note: currently this may only show if you’ve never set up ACH; improvements are in progress).
Where to view your negative balance
- Log in as a seller
- Go to Finance on the left side of your Seller Dashboard
- Your negative balance will display in red
Troubleshooting
Why wasn’t I charged yet?
- Your balance is less than $10, or
- Your bank (ACH) setup isn’t complete, or
- A prior charge attempt failed (update your bank info and try again)
How do I prevent disruptions?
- Connect and verify your bank details to keep listing enabled. Until setup is complete, your ability to list may be limited.
